ABOUT THE BOOK
The story takes place in Churchill, an Arctic port town in northern Manitoba, Canada. It’s on the west shore of Hudson Bay and is famous for its large population of polar bears.
Almost half of all polar bears live in Northern Canada. The bears love sea ice. That’s where they find their food which consists of seals, walruses, narwhals, and belugas. But if food is scarce, they will eat anything they can find, including seabirds, reindeer, and small rodents.
As the air and water get warmer, it causes the ice to melt and break apart, making it difficult for the bears to find food.
The primary cause of warming climates is humans. Burning fossil fuels like oil and coal for energy puts gases into the air that create a ‘greenhouse’ effect.
What Can You Do To Help Prevent Global Warming?
Use the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
